In August 2024, the Simplify Prior Authorization initiative announced the upcoming launch of an exciting new development in the Canadian specialty drug landscape to improve the prior authorization claims experience.
Today, The Prior Authorization Framework and Accreditation (PAFA) Program is pleased to give you details of this new Canadian non-profit.
PAFA is a payer framework for prior or special authorization (PA) claims administration practices and technology solutions. PAFA is also a recognition program for payers who adopt the Framework and there is no requirement for payers to compromise the proprietary aspects of PA. Public payers in Ontario and British Columbia have already successfully adopted many of these practices and solutions.
Find out how payer and non-payer organizations can become members, learn about PAFA’s guiding principles, the framework, and accreditation opportunities for payers. Members can apply to join the Framework and Accreditation Advisory Board (FAAB), and associate, non-payer members can apply to join the FAAB and/or the Accreditation Panel.
Here are just some of the benefits of membership:
- Payer members will receive recognition for being a member of PAFA and through accreditation and differentiate themselves from their competitors.
- Non-payers who are associate members will be supporting the Framework and improvements in prior authorization.
- Advisors and plan sponsors, whether members or not, can use PAFA to identify the PA practices and processes that will improve the PA claims experience for their clients and plan members. The PAFA website will list payers that are members, those that have committed to PAFA’s Guiding Principles, and those who are accredited.
